The Blakely was, sadly, a big disappointment for me.
I bought two versions -
the regular and petite (hoping that either would work on me) -
with its recent sale price ($69.99)
plus the BIRTHDAY promotion which gave me a further 20% off.
I so wanted this to work, because the top is so pretty.
But apparently, the blouse had other thoughts.
PROS:
So well made.
The silk used was substantial.
Lightly lined with a layer of chiffon.
CONS:
Quite low cut. Will definitely need a cami or shirt underneath all the time.
The tie belt is very flimsy.
(Although that might go with the whole "light, ethereal" aesthetic of the top.)
The ruffles at the sleeves made me feel like I had to have my seatbelt securely fastened
and my seat and tray table in the upright position.
The fit was just really off for me - regular or petite.
Although, the petite did fit me better than the regular, but that's not saying much.
I tried styling it like Ms. Molly Carey in the March 2010 catalog,
but it just looked really sloppy and didn't do the blouse justice. :(

You know, now that I look closer at the blouse and I see the whole "taking flight" aspect. Funny. It is pretty, but sounds like it may definitely make it to Final sale.
ReplyDeleteMaaan, I'd put an IRL picture just to support the "flying" fact, but besides the fact that these babies have been returned. I was too chicken (pardon the pun) to actually take photos of me in the tops!
ReplyDeleteBummer!! It looks so cute in the pic...and it's navy, my fave.
ReplyDeleteWhen do we get to hear about the sweeping ruffles???
I saw it on an SA and I agree that you would definitely need something underneath. Good review, but yah, bring on the irl pics. Don't be shy ;-)
ReplyDeleteOoh, ooh! The sweeping ruffles! Will definitely review that soon, with IRL pics I'm hoping. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo sad it didn't work out for so many. :( I steamed mine and then put it in the dryer for a quick blowthrough. Ruffles weren't so flat afterwards, and it lent the shirt a more lived-in look.
I'm getting ahead of myself...
And gigiofca, I would totally post pics up just for you, but these suckers have been returned! And no images of me in them have been immortalized, thank GOD! Hahaha!
Thanks for dropping by, ladies! :)
