J.Crew Reviews - Solid Lieutenant Jacket

Solid Lieutenant Jacket (currently $69.99)
This jacket was a gift from my uncle/godfather and his family
after their stay with me during their vacation here in VA. :)
I had tried it on as part of an outfit a dear SA in the Friendship Heights suggested
(Hi, Emma!! *waves*)
and I fell in love!

It was the perfect pair to the dress I had on -
a strapless cotton gauze dress with small layers of ruffles starting out under the bust.
(I'm not so sure this dress ever made it online.)
I got the dress but didn't get the jacket as the jacket was too expensive
and NOT at all in my budget.

When I raved about it to my cousin, she remembered,
and TOLD me that I HAD to get it as a gift from them. :p
They wanted to get it at the store,
but I told them that we could all get it online where it was cheaper. ;)

PROS:
Heavy enough for a chilly spring day, but light enough for a cool summer night.
Can totally be belted with your choice of belt since it doesn't come with its own belt.
(I have an older military-type jacket from J.Crew, and the belt is practically sewn in with the jacket.)
I would say size down if you prefer a more fitted look.
It doesn't look messy or sloppy when you put it on.

CONS:
The color (above) might be off-putting,
since it looks like it's been through the was a few times.
But if that isn't your cup of tea, there's always more choices out there,
like the Warm Beechwood color (below).

  2. Hi, Ina! I think that beechwood color is pretty! (I went for the darker since it'll be easier to dress up for work.) I'd say it is TTS, but if you like going for a layered look, you could go up one size (not much difference, and IMO, won't make you look like you're swimming in the jacket) for more size in the arm openings.

Also, this'd go great with feminine pieces, like those with ruffles and floral designs. As for colors, I think this beechwood would look awesome with any of the light, pastel colors J.Crew's come out with recently, but also with some of the darker colors like plum or navy blue.

HTH! :) And thanks for dropping by!

  5. Until drewablank puts up IRL pics, I will vouch for the fact that it looked AWESOME on her with the strapless gauzy dress - catalog-styled to perfection (those would be the older catalogs that don't look like they were styled by Miss Haversham).

Great review - I may have to consider this one b/c it was so great on you!

I have the Beechwood color in the solid Lieutenant Jacket and LOVE it. I have worn it a ton already with all sorts of outsfits and agree this is a very versatile item. I am not on the hunt for my size in the Black!

I prefer the darker color, and I have really want it now. I think I would add a little girlie touch, like an oversized flower, very much like Carrie in Sex and the City.
