I remember...my fascination with Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine Trilogy.

The first time I read the first book, Griffin & Sabine in this trilogy by Nick Bantock, I was hooked. I was fascinated with how this book was put together. The letters are actually folded and placed into envelopes that are attached to the book's pages. All the art is done by Mr. Bantock, from the graphics on the envelopes, stationery and postcards to the stamps. It's like reading the mail of someone entirely imaginative and inspired, without the guilt, the subsequent lawsuits and such.

It narrates a correspondence between Griffin and Sabine and the narrative lends an air of mystery that all leads up to an extraordinary cliffhanger that will confound and endear you and make want more. Fortunately Mr. Bantock had more in store, with the publication of the following books, Sabine's Notebook and The Golden Mean.

The story of Griffin and Sabine do continue beyond this trilogy, though - through The Gryphon, Alexandria and The Morning Star. I have not been lucky enough to procure for myself the following trilogy of books but can't wait to read on and discover what becomes of Griffin and Sabine.

Another book Nick Bantock has written which I highly recommend is The Forgetting Room. Like the Griffin & Sabine series, it is chockful of wonderful images and sublime narrative. It follows a man on a spiritual quest for belonging. Now who couldn't relate to that? :)
